Live online classroom training with required in-person gun range qualification for students who want to complete both their Florida Class “D” and Class “G” security training through one bundle package.
Guards Institute provides professional security training programs for individuals seeking to become licensed unarmed and armed security officers in the State of Florida. This online bundle package is designed for students who want to complete both the required Class “D” unarmed security training and the Class “G” statewide firearms training through one professional training pathway.
This bundle includes the required third-day in-person gun range qualification for the Class “G” portion while allowing students to complete the classroom portions online.
This bundle package is designed for students pursuing both the Florida Class “D” Security Officer License and the Florida Class “G” Statewide Firearms License.
The Class “D” license is required to work as an unarmed security officer in Florida. The Class “G” license allows qualified individuals to work in an armed capacity where permitted by Florida law.
Students must complete the Class “D” course first before applying for the Class “G” license.
The Class “D” portion of this bundle teaches the foundations of private security, including physical security, access control, terrorism awareness, emergency procedures, patrol, communication, observation, traffic control, incident response, and report writing.
The Class “G” portion provides firearms-related instruction, including firearms safety, marksmanship fundamentals, firearms mechanics, handling procedures, loading and unloading, clearing malfunctions, liability awareness, and practical firearm proficiency development.
Students must successfully complete all required online classroom and in-person range components in order to satisfy the full bundle requirements.
Please review the registration page for online course dates, live classroom schedules, and the required in-person gun range qualification date. Administrative services, ammunition, and range-related fees may be separate unless specifically stated in your registration package.
Upon completing the Class “D” course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion. Upon completing the Class “G” course and required range qualification, students will receive a Certificate of Proficiency.
Applications are processed through the Division of Licensing of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
A hard copy of the Class “D” license costs $45, and a background check costs $52.75. Once approved, students may receive a temporary Class “D” license that allows them to work as licensed security officers in Florida while the hard copy is processed.
Applications are typically reviewed within 60–90 days. Students should also be aware that an annual 4-hour requalification is required each year to keep the Class “G” license active.
Please check the Florida Division of Licensing for the regional office nearest to you.
